A-16- San Francisco on Chestnut St.
Hello All,
I was recently in the San Fran area looking for a good meal, when I remembered a co-worker telling me about a place that was reviewed by Wine Spectator as one of the best Wine/Pizza joints in the country. What was it called? Ace?, Axes-16?...no...oh, I remember, it was A-16! Kind of a weird name, and I'm not sure what it means, but here is my review.
I walked into the place via a very non conspicuous pub-style entrance. Once I was inside, I was greeted by a very friendly hostess that was eager, and quick to get me in a seat. As I walked through the narrow establishment I noticed the over-all feel of the place as a warm, and cozy atmosphere. Within seconds of sitting down at my table, the wait person was asking how I was doing and rattling off the chef specials for the evening. The specials were tempting, but I was determined to keep my "eye on the prize"...Pizza paired with a good wine (just as I was told to do via Wine Spectator). After 10 minutes of torturing myself to make a decision, I went with the wild mushroom Pizza. As I ordered my Pizza, I asked the wait person to recommend a wine to pair with my meal. She was quick to pair my meal with what she refered to as "a very earthy wine, with hints of leather and light tannins."
Literally, 2 minutes later my glass of mother earth heaven was delivered, and 5-8 minutes later, the italian masterpiece accompanied.
...how was it?
What can I say, the folks at A-16 have the dining experience dialed in; their wine selection, scrumptious food, and outstanding service make this a "MUST" for anyone visiting or traveling in the San Francisco Chestnut Street area.
With a menu that offers chef style favorites, and a wine list to die for, you will enjoy the experience.
For those that prefer a Scale- ***** (1 being poor, and 5 being incredible)
